1. First impressions – website
I always start with the website, and right off the bat I love it. 🦝
- Mascot, fun animations, and it's instantly clear what the app does: "split any bill in seconds."
- Consistent claymation-style look throughout.
- I didn't know I could click the raccoon – cool touch.
- Explore the demo is a great way to show how it works before signing up.
- Currency selector in the right order (EUR, USD, GBP) – perfect if Europe is your main market.
I was impressed before I even opened the app.
2. App Store listing
Fully optimized – great ASO, consistent styling. Nothing to add.
3. Onboarding
- Google sign-in, loading animation and quick onboarding all work.
- "What do you split most?" – the option "Just us two" is unclear. Not sure what it means (translation thing?).
- Love the Argentina reference with the Sunday asado. Great detail.
- Animations and swiping are smooth.
4. What I love
- Everything just works – it feels watertight.
- It picked up the Mexican peso automatically since I'm in Mexico.
- Payment structure is well thought out; the pay-up button is great.
- QR code + copy link for invites – very good.
- Adding a payout method (my PayPal username) was super easy.
- Tooltips – nice.
- The spinning wheel is unique to you. Keep it.
- Raccoon of the Month – fun concept.
- "Unlock another group, share with 3 friends" – smart growth mechanic.
- Lifetime Pro at $9.99 – very reasonable.
- Statistics are nice.
5. Bugs & UX fixes
- Create Group dead end: Without a group name, the add-members button is greyed out with no explanation. Pre-fill a placeholder name, or keep the button clickable and show "Please add a group name."
- No contacts: Use this moment to invite people – show an overlay to add members so they stay in the flow.
- "Promote a permanent group": Can't go back. The X top right is visible but not clickable.
- Currency: Keeps defaulting to euro, and my preferred USD doesn't always stick. Add a default currency in the profile and ask for it during onboarding.
- Raccoon animation: Sometimes glitches with a purple/pink background (see screenshot).
- Payout details: Have people confirm their username before a payment goes out to avoid paying out the wrong bank account/paypal.
6. Feature suggestions
- Make the quick split description optional.
- Plus button on home: add an option to assign the expense to a group, with group search.
- Spinning wheel: save the result so it can be shared when people aren't in the same room (maybe with a limit).
7. Positioning & marketing
Bill splitting is very competitive, so you need to stand out.
- Define what makes you different. Why did you build this and not something else? That reason is your story. From what I see: yours is simple and way more fun. I studied in the Netherlands, where there are tons of these apps – simple, but boring.
- Go in person. Universities, student housing, friend groups going on holiday: "I built this app, try it out." People want to help you when you present it face to face.
- One user brings the whole group – that's your built-in advantage.
- Have them delete the other apps. When you demo it, get people to uninstall their other splitting apps. If they do, I'm 100% sure they'll stick with yours.
- Set a clear cash-flow goal. Campus marketing won't get you to $1M, but $1,000 in the first month (even the first 2 weeks) is doable if you put in the hours.
- Bonus tip. Add a migration option. People will tell you for sure "I'd love to use it, but I have everything in SplitWise". Tell them, "Just click this 1 migration button and all your data from SplitWise is copied to PayFun."
Bottom line
This is really good. Simple, fun, polished – I genuinely think it can catch on. 👏
