The #1 thing: make the app the place people go before they relapse 🚨
Building a daily habit is hard. Getting people to do one thing at one moment is much easier. So tell them clearly, from the start:
"Feel like smoking? Before you light up, pull over in the app first. That's all we ask."
Like the old quitting trick: wait 30 seconds, and if you still want it, go ahead. Don't forbid the relapse, just ask them to open the app first. People will do that, I'm 100% sure. Your SOS / pull-over feature is already really good, it just needs to be the main message. That's where "this app changed my life" comes from.
Your questions, answered
- Road trip idea clear? Yes, right away. Say it even more literally: "Your T-break is a road trip."
- Where did you get stuck? Nowhere really, some onboarding steps felt abstract.
- Express Lane clear? Yes, and pricing is fair. But simplify the screen (see below).
- Would you open it daily? Yes, mainly because of the widget.
- Bugs? Nothing major, one small thing I'll follow up on. iPhone 16 Plus, iOS 26.6.1.
1. App Store listing
Really clear value and mechanic. Passing a new stop every day is genius, I haven't seen that before.
2. Onboarding
- Explain what a T-break is on the first screen, not the second.
- Remove the em dashes (—), they read as AI-written.
- Screens with nothing to do get skipped. Make them interactive or cut them.
- The postcard timing step is still abstract at that point, most people will click through.
- Bigger idea: onboard inside the app. When they pick a route, use the real routes page.
3. Paywall & pricing
- The trial pops up before I've seen the app. Too early, nobody will start it here.
- Keep it, but make the free option the big one: "Continue my first road trip" / "Choose another route." Right now it feels like an ad.
- Simple test: is this a fair moment to ask for money? If your gut says no, change it.
- I couldn't find pricing inside the app. Add a plan badge on the home screen (next to Day 1 of 7) that opens the upgrade screen. Anyone who wants to pay should be able to. I found it hidden in the settings but you NEED to make sure it's really easy to pay for someone who wants to pay. That way you can force the plan less. A surprising amount of people buy before getting shown the paywall if they can find the upgrade. They just wanted to see the app first.
- Show monthly ($5.99) and yearly ($2.49/mo) side by side, so both types of buyer get a reason to pay. You currently show it as a link. But show them side by side. Yearly buyers will buy because "it's only 2.50 compared to 5.99". Monthly buyers will buy because "I only have to pay 5.99 right now compared to 29.99". Changing this will make your paywall go from "Should I pay for this?" to "Which plan should I take?".
4. Express Lane screen
- Too many checkmarks = doubt. Go for one benefit: "Your first road trip is free. Want to keep going? Unlock every road trip."
- Always word the premium options as "Keep going", never as "Get started". Continuing is more appealing than starting
5. Look & feel
- Add a light mode. Self-improvement should feel light and calm, not dark. Look into colour psychology.
- Use real royalty-free photos for postcards, not AI images.
6. Daily check-in
- Feels like admin, people won't see why to fill it in. Give them a reason.
- "See you tomorrow" looks like a button but isn't, and I can't edit my entry.
7. Logging a detour
"You took an exit" is very direct. Try "Did you take an exit?", then tell them what to do next.
8. Widgets & Live Activity
- Widgets are genius, exactly what brings people back daily. Lock Screen details too.
- The BRP Live Activity stays in the top bar and I couldn't turn it off. Almost made me delete the app. Make it easy to switch off.
Bottom line
Strong concept, simple app, everything works. Put "pull over before you relapse" front and centre and you've got something people will love.
