Starting at the App Store listing: ASO looks solid. If you have a website or Play Store listing, add those to your TestMyBuild listing too.
On Instagram you use many different (likely AI) people to present the app. Great for testing content, but it doesn't build familiarity. Pick one face and stick with it.
Onboarding
Add one concrete promise up front, like "Increase your GPA", so people who find you on their own know exactly what they get. The first onboarding screen is unclear; the second and the streak screen are good. Notifications are asked at the right moment. ๐
UI
Really good: clean, simple, nice glass effect. The empty home screen forcing "Get Started" works well. Optional: a subtle swipe animation in the nav bar.
Courses & syllabus scan
- The + button has no "type my classes" option, unlike the main screen.
- Adding a second course felt like editing the previous one.
- "Read Syllabus" sits below the fold, likely pushed down by the premium banner.
- Scanned multiple syllabi, only one course was added. The one from my second image was dropped. If it's a premium limit, say so.
Course colours
Courses show different colours, but I couldn't figure out what they mean, and nothing explains it. That's a missed opportunity. Use a clear scale: red at risk โ yellow behind โ green on track โ extra green above target, and add an info icon. Then the Courses tab shows at a glance what needs work.
What-If simulator
I couldn't find it. The closest was the grade simulator under GPA ("What happens if you score higher?"), which only goes up. The -1/+1/+5 buttons are unnecessary next to the slider, and page scrolling interferes with the slider.
Grading systems
Converting targets into letter grades (D+, A+) is very cool. The simulator only uses percentages though, while parts of Europe use 1โ10 and Germany runs in reverse (1 is best). Worth supporting if you target those markets.
Home screen & guidance โญ biggest point
With this many features, I lost the plot at some point. Use the home screen to show mini versions of other sections (e.g. the study plan).
Adding classes, deadlines, homework and syllabi is already really easy, so push users to add everything as early as possible, e.g. at the start of each session. Once everything is in, you can actually tell them "this is what's next", and the home screen is the perfect place for that.
Focus timer & paywall
Timer works, linking to sessions is nice, but it's not very exciting. Sign-up and paywall timing are excellent; "Save my semester" is a strong CTA.
Your questions
Liked: UI, timing of asks, everything works without login or paying.
Confusing: colours, what to do next, finding the simulator.
Target grade: yes, very clear.
Study plan fits my week: yes.
Broke: multi-syllabus scan, slider vs. scroll.
Would I use it: yes, if I had classes. No reason not to download it as a student.
Top priorities
- Get users to add everything early, then guide "what's next" on the home screen
- Fix + explain the colour logic
- Make the What-If simulator findable
- Fix multi-syllabus scanning
- Clearer first onboarding screen
