App review (tested on iPhone / iOS)
I'm being fairly critical below because that's what makes feedback useful. Overall, I think the app has a lot going for it.
1. App Store listing
- It looks good, but it's immediately recognizable as AI-generated. The description uses em dashes and the images have that typical AI look.
- How much this matters depends on your target market. For me, it raises the question "how legit is this?" It's like the AI-generated food boards outside restaurants: if the listing feels generated, I start to wonder whether the app got much effort either.
- The OTP email has the same AI-generated feel.
2. Signup
- When I tapped Continue without filling in all the fields, nothing told me what was missing. Clear "missing field" messages would help.
3. Onboarding
- Connect to a clinic: I chose Wyoming as my state, and the only option shown was a virtual vet in Florida. Since it's virtual, that may be fine, but when I see the word Florida it makes me ask myself if I'm missing something.
- Pet type selection: If I pick "Other/Not Now" and then pick Dog or Cat, "Other/Not Now" stays selected, so it looks like both are chosen. Other options like Bird or Reptile replace the selection correctly. Dog and Cat should deselect "Other/Not Now" too.
- Breed (step 3/8):
- My dog is a Frisian Stabij (Stabyhoun), which isn't in the list, and there's no way to add it. A "Custom / Other" option would fix this, especially if you're going worldwide.
- When I type a search like "spaniel," I can't scroll inside the results dropdown. Trying to scroll closes it. The page scroll works.
- Sex selection (and step 5/8): The animations are nice, but no other step has them, so they feel inconsistent.
- Length: It's not actually very long, but mobile users rush through onboarding, so it feels long. I also feel like the onboarding should be more "In-App" if you understand what I mean. So that it feels part of the app instead of before entering the app.
- Progress isn't saved: If I force-close the app partway through adding my pet, I have to start the questionnaire over. Saving progress locally on the device would solve this.
- Notifications: Asking for notification permission after I added my pet is great. That's the right moment.
4. General UI
- Bottom buttons like "Finish Setup" and "Back" cover part of the page. Floating them over a transparent background would look cleaner.
- The haptics are good and make the app fun to use.
5. Virtual Care / Talk to a Vet
- I think this is the best and most important feature. Really well done.
- Once I'm a few steps in, I can't close the flow. I have to tap Back through every step (3 → 2 → 1) before I can exit. Please add a close button.
6. Home screen
- The quick actions are good.
- The home screen is cluttered, and I see that across the app. With "Today's Journey" and many other features, I can do a thousand things but don't know where to start.
- "Talk to a Vet" should be at the top.
7. Main takeaway: guide users into the app
- Right now onboarding is separate from the app itself. Once I'm in, everything is shown at once instead of being introduced one feature at a time.
- An interactive onboarding inside the app would help a lot. For example:
- Show me once: "Need a vet? Tap here. This button is always available."
- Walk me through one day of "Today's Journey" (breakfast, walk), so I know how to continue the next day.
- Introduce features gradually, like "Today, try a food scan" or "Today, try a poop scan."
- The apps people use most are very easy to use. That's why "stupid simple" apps so often get so much attention. They solve 1 specific thing that you immediately see when using it. The features are already here; what's missing is the structure and guidance. This is my most important point.
I'll keep exploring the app and I'm curious what the rest of the community thinks.
