GymBuddy: Guided Strength is a free Android app for adults who train in the gym but don't have a real program. You answer a few questions, get a structured weekly plan, follow each workout step by step and log what you did. Your completed workouts are taken into account when your next plans are prepared.

How to test it (about 15 minutes)

  1. Install from Google Play and create an account.
  2. Go through onboarding: goal, experience, training days, session length and equipment.
  3. Look at the program you get and open today's workout.
  4. Log at least one exercise: sets, reps and load. A real gym session is best, but any set you do works.
  5. Open your training history to see what was recorded.

What I want to know

  • Did the plan you got make sense for your goal and equipment? What surprised you?
  • Was anything in onboarding confusing or too long?
  • On the workout screen, would you know exactly what to do in the gym?
  • Was logging sets quick or annoying? What slowed you down?
  • Would you open GymBuddy again next week? Why, or why not?

Please start with what's wrong or confusing. That helps me most. Honest feedback here on TestMyBuild is all I need, no Google Play rating required.

Good to know

  • Android only, free, no ads.
  • An account is required, so your plan and history are saved.
  • GymBuddy is a general fitness guidance app, not a medical service. Choose loads that are appropriate for you.

Built by Kate, a solo maker and product owner.

Completely free.

This app is made and run by its builder, not by TestMyBuild. We tried it once before listing it, which is not a check that it is safe, keeps working or handles your data well. Use your own judgement.

How to test this app

  1. Open the app and sign up with your real email. Start the free trial if there is one.
  2. Use it the way you would use it for real, for at least a day.
  3. Come back here. Post a screenshot of your signup and what you honestly think. One post per app, worth the listing's bounty when approved.

I like the product and that you built it around your own problem. The website clearly explains the problem, the user and what makes GymBuddy different. Issues first, then your questions.

WRONG / CONFUSING

1. "We couldn't build your program yet": I selected all equipment (later even resistance bands) and still got stuck: "Your selected training schedule does not fit a supported program structure." It told me to change equipment, but I'd selected everything. I had to go back and change my days several times.

  • Show the exact reason (e.g. "Choose 3+ days") so I can fix that one thing.
  • Test every input combination. An AI agent could help run through them.

2. Back button on "Choose a different structure" takes me to step 3 instead of the recommended structure.

3. Back button on step 1 closes the app. Remove it; draft saving already works.

4. Next button below the fold on several screens. Make it floating like on step 2, and remove the white block under it there.

5. Weight units not shown. I log kg, US users log lb. Show the unit, suggest a default, allow changing it.

6. Session length never asked. My workouts are ~1 hour.

1️⃣ Did the plan make sense?
Once built, yes, the first workout made sense. The surprise was how hard it was to get a plan at all, and that I ended up training Wed and Thu back to back, probably due to the start date.

2️⃣ Onboarding confusing or too long?
Too long, mainly step 3. Aim for under 30 seconds and make it feel like you're already inside the app.

  • Loading: add an animation on the first screen after Sign Up.
  • Disclaimer: a simple "I've read and understand" checkbox without forced scroll would be quicker (not a lawyer though).
  • Avatar: adds nothing and pushes content down. Remove it, or match it to gender.
  • Workout days: my weeks vary. Make it flexible: "What days do you want to work out?"
  • Program duration: too early to decide; most will just pick 4 weeks.
  • Equipment: good question, but my gym has almost everything, so lots of scrolling.
  • Push-up question: make it a slider.
  • Previous weights: the example lifts may not be ones I do. Leaving them blank is good.
  • Training background: options feel generic. Add an advanced option so serious lifters feel the app is for them too.
  • Start date: almost everyone picks today. Default to Today.
  • Reminders: not needed.

Good: quick welcome animation, draft saving, avatar updates with gender, intro before the first workout.

3️⃣ Would I know what to do in the gym?
Mostly, but there's too much text.

  • The info icon is great, so drop the description under each exercise. Beginners can tap the title.
  • "Use these numbers as a starting point" adds nothing.
  • Duration shows a fixed 54 min. Add a Start button that starts a timer and let Complete Workout stop it. I don't know how long my sessions take, so this alone would add real value.

Good: the main screen is super clean (Workout, Current Program, History, Insights, Profile). Edit/skip/remove/progress/replace all make sense.

4️⃣ Logging quick or annoying?
Biggest suggestion: make logging in the moment. The machine for my first planned exercise is almost always taken, so:

  1. Start Workout starts the timer
  2. "Where do we start?" lets me pick any exercise or add one
  3. An overlay where I log each set as I do it (also captures rest time)
  4. Finished exercises drop into your existing list as the summary

Also show the training level after a workout as an overlay, not a separate page.

5️⃣ Would I come back next week?
The foundation is good and the home screen is as simple as it should be. In-the-moment logging and the timer would bring me back. Right now the plan error and long onboarding would lose many people before they get there.
